Shamsuzzoha, a professor at Rajshahi University, was posthumously awarded the Independence Day Award in 2021 for his role in the 1969 Mass Uprising against the Pakistani military regime. He was killed by police during a protest, becoming a martyr for Bengali rights and contributing to the eventual independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
