The Independence Day Award is Bangladesh’s highest civilian honor, given by the Government of Bangladesh to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the nation’s development and independence. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was posthumously awarded in 2015 for his pivotal role in the 1971 Liberation War and his vision for a sovereign, democratic Bangladesh.
